Let the lift do the hard work and mount sheets in a fraction of the time. It is made of all welded steel for durability and safety. It will reach a maximum height of 1feet and carry up to 150 lbs. Move it easily using the rolling caster wheels and carry sheets of up to by 1feet.

Working construction jobs can be tiring and hard. However, when you bring such tools like drywall lifts into play, things become easier. This model can carry a load of up to 150 lbs and hoist it to a ceiling height of 1feet. If you are working with wide panels, for example, four by 1feet, you have nothing to worry about for it will lift. Assemble it without using any tools and disassemble easily for storage. It is safe to use, this is guaranteed with the built-in winch with brake. It has a sturdy build to give you peace of mind when working with it.

You require a safe equipment when doing construction projects. This drywall lift will carry up to a weight of 150 lbs to the ceiling without putting you or the sheets at risk. It has a sturdy welded steel and built-in winch with brake. Assemble and disassemble it with ease, till as it hoists for sloping ceiling. You don’t have to bear the weight of the panels since the lift can lower down to 3inches from the ground for easy loading. This lift makes one-person operations manageable and efficient.

PANELLIFT 19Drywall Lift Loader

Keep your back healthy and pain-free by using this drywall lift to hoist the heavy panels up the wall or ceiling. It lowers the loading area to a few inches off the floor to reduce the loading effort. In a matter of seconds, you will have attached your load and off to mounting up higher. Moreover, if you want to dismantle it for storage or transportation, it is a quick job that requires no tools.

Basic Operation

Drywall lifts have a similar operation. They function to lift the drywall off a flat position to the placement location. These types can lift the load using the hand crank and can position the panel in the horizontal position only.

Locate butt seams between framing

Float butted seams. Try to get the measurements so the end of the panel falls between the framing. Then backblock it with a special device that helps create a recessed butted seam. You can make your own butt-joint backer or use one of the available proprietary backers.

By backblocking the butted seam there are fewer problems with popped screws, and there is no possibility of the joint ridging. A recess is much easier to hide.

How to get the Drywall on to the Wall

Now that you know a bit about the size and shape of drywall you will need you can get to putting it on the wall.

Believe it or not there are still many contractors that use drywall nails instead of screws. The reason for this is that it is easier and costs less. The problem with it is that you may end up having nail pops later down the road especially in new construction where the home settles and studs contract in winter due to lower moisture content in the home and the wood.

Personally I like using screws especially if you have a dedicated screw gun that can be set to plunge screws at just the right depth every time but it does take a lot longer to load screws rather than having a handful of nails and tapping your way down a wall. It is also much easier if you are on stilts not having to deal with corded tools or not having access to electric when you are working in new construction. That includes the hassle of using a generator and buying tools. A couple hammers, drywall knifes and a tape measure is not a large investment but a half dozen cordless drills is.

For remodeling I would always suggest screws but for new construction you do what you think best.

After spending over 30 hours comparing at least 3ladders and testing four, we’re recommending a stepladder for common tasks and an extension ladder for lofty heights, namely the 5.5-foot Gorilla GLF-5X Fiberglass Hybrid Ladder and the Werner D6228-2ft Type IA Fiberglass D-Rung Extension Ladder. Between the two, you should be able to safely fix every ceiling fan, change every floodlight, paint every wall, clean every gutter, wash every window, and even get up on your roof to do a quick chimney repair or to clear a few branches from a recent storm.

A solid ladder with add-ons

This well-built stepladder works with a number of buckets, trays, and hooks to hold tools and parts during projects.

If the Gorilla is unavailable, we also like the Werner FS10ft Type I Fiberglass Single Sided Stepladder. This traditional stepladder doesn’t have wide top steps but does offer a number of add-on accessories (available separately) that we found to be useful, including a utility bucket, a tool hook, and a paint cup.

If you’re an advanced DIYer, we recommend the Little Giant Select Step Model 5-The legs of this ladder can telescope out, transforming it into a 5-, 6-, 7-, or 8-foot stepladder. Since you can set those adjustable legs to uneven lengths, the Little Giant can stand on a flight of stairs or flush against a wall, both of which are unsafe positions for a traditional stepladder. It also has a platform step and an excellent tool tray that converts into a handhold. It costs too much for use on simple around-the-house tasks, but if you’re doing a lot of work on a home, the versatility and value of this ladder’s features justify the cost.

Who this is for

Ladders are available in a variety of lengths, and a ladder that will work perfectly for one person might not get the job done for someone else. For this guide, particularly on our extension-ladder recommendation, we concentrated on the ladder needs of a typical two-story home with eaves approximately 1to 20 feet off the ground. If that doesn’t describe your home, other ladders will work for you. It’s important to know how to choose a ladder so that you can select the best ladder for your needs.

How we picked and tested

For this guide, we looked at two styles of ladders: stepladders and extension ladders. Because of their lengths and features, these two styles complement each other. To actively maintain a home, it’s a good idea to own both.

Pull Quote

Put together, these two types of ladders offer you the ability to access the entire exterior of your house.

We did not do any comparative testing of our extension ladder pick, although we did get our hands on a Werner ladder to confirm the overall build quality (it’s excellent). We tested two stepladders: the Gorilla GLF-5X and the Werner FS10To evaluate these ladders, we used them for a number of common household tasks, such as storm-window adjustments, light bulb changing, window cleaning, and a few other odd projects (lubing up a barn-door roller and taking down part of a ceiling). In addition to those unstructured tests, we ascended and descended each ladder countless times and did plenty of “wobble testing” by standing at various steps and shifting our body weight around.

The top two steps of the Gorilla GLF-5X are much larger than the rest, which promotes easier balance and better stability.

Our extension ladder pick

To reiterate, sheetrock is a branded type of drywall. The company that produces this type of drywall also owns other items with the term “sheetrock” on them, like panels, compounds and tape. While contractors and engineers use it interchangeably with the term for “drywall,” it isn’t the same thing. Drywall is actually a name for many types of boards, but originally it was the name for paper-faced gypsum panels. However, that was back when only one or two manufacturers were making the product. Now there are several manufacturers producing it, and they each have their own name for it — Gibraltar Board, ceiling linings, Winstone Wallboards, Pladur and so forth. Sheetrock just happens to be the most common name among contractors.

Strong aluminum structure of these stilts can tolerate up to 22pounds of weight and help you to maintain a better solidness. The braces can be fully adjusted and therefore these stilts can be used by almost any person regardless of the size. They are manufactured with rubber feet and they don’t damage the floor when you walk on it. As a measure to increase the comfort and assure more support, the calf braces are made with increased width and padding. Overall, this is a great choice to perform many tasks in both household and professional scales.

How to walk on drywall stilts

The first time on the drywall stilts can be pretty exciting and somewhat terrifying experience for you. Of course, the ones around you might make a lot of fun of your efforts. Don’t lose your confidence over the first time unsteadiness; just let it go and focus on your purpose only. Gradually, you will find some steadiness. Just try to move a couple of steps probably with some assistance of a friend. Always remember that your legs are extended; be smart enough to lift them adequately. In fact, this strategy can be mastered ONLY WITH PRACTICE. As a safety measure, find a spacious place where you don’t get any glasses, sharp edges and any other potential dangers. As you grow confidence, try different surfaces. Once you are confident, try to carry some stuff (a box, tools, some weight etc). We cannot say for how long you should practice; the duration may differ from person to another. You should keep practicing until you feel fully confident.
