enema kit Buyer’s Guide

If you keep the before points in mind, you can easily go out to the market and buy enema kit, right? No!

CLAMPS

Most enema bag systems come with a standard plastic clamp that has a multi-position ratchet mechanism. Some, but not all, of the bags, kits, and systems can be upgraded with an easy-to-use ramp clamp (pictured at left) that is purchased separately.

In-line pumps add a therapeutic edge to any enema system. These innovative enema tools will deliver the solution deep into the colon, gently pushing past any blockages. People who use this type of enema hose and pump system report less cramping, less leaking, and a therapeutic cleansing similar to a professional colon therapy session. The Higginson Syringe and the Smooth Flow Syringe and Hose System are in-line pumps.

An enema administration is a technique used to stimulate stool evacuation. It is a liquid treatment most commonly used to relieve severe constipation. The process helps push waste out of the rectum when you cannot do so on your own. Enemas are available for purchase at pharmacies for home use, but you should ask a doctor or nurse for specific instructions to avoid injury.

Other types of enemas are administered to clean out the colon and better detect colon cancer and polyps. If you have concerns or worsening symptoms after an enema, ask a doctor right away.

At a medical office

If you are unfamiliar with enemas, you should consider having a medical professional administer one for you. They can also offer instructions for home kits that are available over the counter at pharmacies. Check with your doctor before use.

Some types of enemas are exclusively administered at medical offices. A barium enema, for example, uses a liquid compound that highlights certain areas of the gastrointestinal tract. This increases the amount of the tract that your doctor can see during an exam. Barium enemas are not used to treat constipation.

At home

Enemas can be administered in the comfort of your own home. This way can be less expensive, but you should ask your doctor for detailed instructions beforehand. Due to the delicate nature of the procedure, a loved one should help.

Fill the enema bag with your desired solution, using warm water. Make sure the clamp is shut. Hold the bag with the hose end down and open the clamp for a moment or so to get rid of any air bubbles, which you do not want to introduce into the colon.

Potential risks of enema administration

When conducted properly following a doctor’s instructions, enema administrations are generally considered safe. A barium enema can cause waste to take on a white color for a few days afterward. This is the normal effect of barium and should clear up on its own. If you can’t produce waste, talk to your doctor about ways to loosen your stool.

In extremely rare cases, the incorrect administration of an enema can cause an embolism (or blockage) to form.

Pulmonary embolisms, which occur in the lungs, can be fatal. In other rare cases, an incorrectly administered barium enema can result in avoid the over-the-counter “Fleet” enema, which contains sodium phosphate. A small study in JAMA Internal Medicine linked it to serious complications such as kidney failure.

After an enema

Some people find that they have several additional bowel movements in the hours after an enema. For this reason, many plan to stay home for the rest of the day after an enema is administered. But for the most part, you may carry on with your regular routine after the enema process is complete.

Stool Softeners vs. Laxatives

Constipation medications are available in over-the-counter and prescription versions. Find out which options might work well for you.

Glass Enema Bucket

Most plastic enema bags are made in china and are not BPA free.

1.QT Plastic Enema Buckets are for disposable use.  We only recommend them for those who want to try an enema for the first time and do not have the money to invest in a higher grade kit.    A 3.QT HDPE plastic kit, which we sell, is not disposable and can be re-used.

This is a two piece douche and the easiest to use. It is also the least expensive. If you have never douched anally, this is what you should start out with. The two parts are the nozzle end and the bulb. They click together to create one unit. This type can be used over the toilet (as opposed to the shower) and the cleanse it provides is considered shallow. You can get a bulb syringe with a longer nozzle to get a little deeper cleanse, but exercise caution and hold off on that until you get the hang of this one.

Things to consider when buying bulb syringe Spray Pattern – There are different types of nozzles that can be purchased as part of these systems. The spray pattern can be “straight” or “wide”. Straight only allows the water to be dispensed in one direction. The wide spray option allows for a more thorough cleaning and gets the job done quicker by covering more area.

The nozzles – come in plain, grooved or beaded. The only real function of the grooved or beaded would be pleasure. Some people experience discomfort with these and if cleansing is your only concern, stick with the basic plain nozzle. The width and length of the nozzle can vary. You will want to be sure to choose one that is comfortable for you, but a wider, longer nozzle will provide a more thorough cleansing.

Shower ki t

A shower kit should only be used by those who have some experience with anal douching. This douche kit allows the user to hook up the apparatus directly to the shower. This type of system does provide a deeper cleanse but you must be very careful when using this device. The higher pressure can do damage if not handled carefully. There are models that allow you to control the water pressure and these are recommended especially for those who have not used this method beforehand.

Enema bags

This type of douche is a cross between the two above choices. It uses a bag, much like a hot water bottle, and a long hose attached to a nozzle. The bag is hung up (think IV bag) and attached to the shower and the water flows through the tubing via gravity, rather than pressure like the shower kit. This should come with an option to adjust the pressure and since it is easily detachable, you can take it with you if that option appeals to you.

Some precautionary notes

After the initial insertion, you may want to use anal lube before the next one. Since there is no natural lubrication in the anus, it will make the process more comfortable.

Perform the douche at least an hour prior to anal intercourse. Sometimes all of the water is not expelled and this will allow time for your body to calm down and to make sure all of the water has been evacuated from your system. If not, there is the chance that the water will leak out during sex.

If at any point during the douching, or immediately after, you experience pain, stop. Discontinue using them until you get checked out by a doctor. There can be serious complications as discussed above and any issues should be addressed immediately.

If you are engaging in anal sex or plan to, anal douching is something you may want to consider. It definitely has its pros and cons, but if used carefully and not overdone, it can be a worthwhile practice for you and your partner.

Weird colors, bizarre textures, and questionable tastes aside, gels are still your best bet when it comes to setting up your stomach for success. They’re easy to swallow, easy to digest, and used for energy almost immediately.

Don’t confuse the fact that gels can taste bad (and that therefore you don’t crave them) with their propensity to sabotage your stomach. “Cravings are tough,” says Matt Fitzgerald, nutritionist, coach, and author of The Endurance Diet. “Cravings have been found to be very crude. Really, you just want calories and carbohydrates.” Gels have been engineered to give the exercising body exactly that, with the least amount of resistance from the digestive system. The idea of eating a gel may make you want to gag, but the reality is that it’s your surest ticket to a pain-free stomach.

Just don’t consume more than three gels in an hour, or more than 60 grams of carbohydrates. Doing so will overload your system, which is often what gets runners into trouble.

Electrolyte Drinks

If you’re constantly battling a knotty stomach, it might be best to consume primarily liquids while running. Electrolyte mixes like Tailwind, Skratch Labs, and GU Roctane have been specifically designed to fuel the body in motion in the most digestible form imaginable: liquid. “I’ve raced entire Ironmans on liquids,” says Fitzgerald, adding that in more than 30 years of racing, he’s never chewed while running.

Bananas are a classic performance food for good reason. Most fruit is high in fructose, which in concentrated doses can upset the stomach. But bananas have only a moderate amount of the sugar, making them ideal for in-race fuel. However, they still have a decently high fiber content, which can throw a wrench into the digestive processes. One banana before a race or a bite or two at an aid station will likely be just fine.

Salted Potatoes

This may strike you as counterintuitive: Potatoes are bulky, rich, and filling. In other words, the last thing you want while exercising. But in moderate doses—perhaps just a few bites or half a spud—and without the fatty toppings we usually associate with potatoes (butter, sour cream, bacon), boiled potatoes with the skin off and a bit of salt for electrolyte balance is the type of simple carbohydrate that will sit lightly in the stomach and be absorbed quickly.

Sweet Potatoes

When boiled or roasted, sweet potatoes have a creamy texture that make them easy to put down. But the reason sweet potatoes will play nicely with your stomach is simple: It’s a fast-digesting carbohydrate. Potatoes, both regular and sweet, do contain fiber, but a lot of that is in the skin. If you’re eating one during or just before a race, make sure to peel your potatoes first.

Pretzels

While you certainly don’t want to eat a lot of chips—they’re deep-fried, upping their fat content—they have a pleasant, starchy crunch with salt to stabilize your electrolyte balance. But Dellolacono says the primary benefit of something like a chip is simply giving the palate a break from the sugary, simple carbohydrates like gels. It’s not the best thing for the exercising body, but having something like a small chip will break up the monotony of sticky-sweet tastes and allow you to keep eating the stomach-friendly fuel afterward.

The Training

If you have a weak stomach, there’s good news: Both Fitzgerald and Dellolacono contend that just as you can train the body to run faster and longer, you can train the stomach to comfortably handle more food.

The best way to adapt the body to run with food is to train with a full stomach. There are a few ways to accomplish this: Drink a lot of fluid right before or during a run to make the stomach comfortable with increased volume, go on an easy run immediately after a meal, or simply practice eating while running. (Just like with training for distance, though, you want to slowly build up over time). You’ll never be able to increase how quickly you can absorb carbs—that remains constant, at about 30 to 60 grams per hour—but you can condition your body to be more comfortable with feeling full.

Chicken

In addition to being a complete protein, chicken is rich in leucine, an amino acid that specifically plays a major role in muscle protein synthesis by stimulating protein-building pathways, Berkow says. Chicken breast is the best cut for athletes because it’s low in fat, which slows digestion, so the protein accesses your muscles more quickly.

Get Your Fill: Have at least four ounces of chicken (the size of your hand) to get the daily minimum of 20 grams of protein.

This favorite also has all the essential amino acids your muscles need, but it’s also packed with omega-fatty acids—healthy fats that lower inflammation and don’t slow digestion. “Omega-fatty acids make cell membranes more fluid, which can help your muscles grow by allowing protein to enter your muscle cells easily,” Berkow says. There’s also evidence that it can reduce the loss of muscle mass and spur muscle protein synthesis.

Get Your Fill: A four-ounce piece of salmon will give you the minimum 20 grams of protein.

Eggs are a concentrated source of vitamin B12, which plays a role in red blood cell production and muscle contraction. Just make sure you eat the whole egg, not just egg whites, since that’s the only way you’ll get all nine amino acids. New research shows that when people consumed 1grams of protein in the form of whole eggs after resistance training, their muscle-building response was 40 percent greater than those who consumed the same amount of protein from egg whites. “The egg yolk is also a good source of vitamin D, which is needed for proper muscle function and is associated with less muscle pain,” Berkow says.

Get Your Fill: One egg has six to seven grams of protein, so you need three to four eggs at a time to get to 20 grams.

Beans contain protein, but they need to be combined with another plant source, like whole grains or nuts, to form a complete protein. While it’s a slightly less efficient way to get your muscle-stoking nutrients, it’s necessary for vegans and a good option for heavy meat eaters because they’re lower in fat than many animal sources. Beans also contain fiber, giving your meal some staying power.

Get Your Fill: One cup of beans has 1grams of protein; add rice (which has another five grams) and you’ll get all the essential amino acids.

Get Your Fill: You need at least four ounces of beef to get 20 grams of protein. Red meat is high in saturated fat, so opt for lower-fat cuts like rounds or loins, and Berkow says to choose organic, grass-fed, antibiotic- and hormone-free beef whenever possible.

Greek Yogurt

Like meat, Greek yogurt has all the essential amino acids. “The fluid properties of Greek yogurt cause your body to digest it faster, which supports muscle growth,” Berkow says. It’s also a good source of calcium, which is needed for muscle contraction and signaling, and vitamin D, which supports those functions.

Get Your Fill: Have one cup of plain low- to moderate-fat (like percent) Greek yogurt to get your 20-gram protein minimum. Without the fat, the protein will hit your muscles faster. But you can also just eat slightly more of a full-fat variety. Either way, look for versions without added sugar.

Consider this official permission to eat cheese. It contains slow-digesting casein, a protein specific to dairy, so it keeps a steady stream of energy flowing to your muscles between meals, Berkow says. She recommends incorporating dairy into your diet, such as one cup of low-fat cottage cheese, right before bed, to give your muscles protein while you sleep. The practice has been shown to stimulate muscle building.

Choosing the right sized dildo for your needs.

Dildos tend to be sized two different ways; Length and diameter (sometimes referred to as width), and length and circumference (sometimes referred to as girth). Make sure when you’re shopping for your first dildo that you don’t confuse diameter and circumference or you may be in for a pretty rude surprise when your sex toy arrives. As you can see in the picture below diameter refers to the distance across the dildo at its widest point. The circumference is the size measured around the dildo.

When determining the length of your new dildo you may want to take into consideration that bigger may not always be better. If your last partner of 7” was more than you could take there is no sense in buying a 9” dildo, with realistic balls and a suction cup base, if you’re not going to be able to get all of it in. It would be better to look at buying a smaller dildo with a suction cup base that you can use as intended and that will still fit into you comfortably without bottoming out with two inches left.

If you can take 7” without shedding a tear you may want to consider an 8”-9” dildo so that you can get the most out of your new toy. There’s nothing worse than buying a dildo on a whim and then realizing it won’t reach where you want it to.

One more thing to take into consideration with regards to length is how the dildo is designed. Just because a dildo is 10” long doesn’t mean that there are ten insertable inches. Some dildos are designed with life like balls to stimulate your perineum while you’re riding on top of it. These dildos may say they are 10” long, but since the balls aren’t able to be inserted it may only have an insertable length of 9”. We do our best in our product descriptions to let you know not only the overall length of our dildos, but also the insertable length.

Another factor you need to take into account is how “fat” of a dildo you want. If you have no idea what diameter dildo you’re going to need you can use your finger(s) as a guide. The average male finger is 3/4”, or 25mm, in diameter. If you can easily fit two fingers inside of you that would be the equivalent of a 1.5”, or 50mm, diameter dildo.

If your only needs are to have a dildo that easily slides in, this would be a good size for you to start with. Since there are a lot of guys out there looking for a little more girth than that you’re going to have to determine if you want to feel a little, or a lot, of stretch with your new dildo.

If two fingers are easy, yet you want to feel a little more stretch, you may want to consider a dildo that is in the 2”-2.5” diameter range.

If you’re a seasoned pro, and looking for a dildo to add even more stretch, you’re going to want to start looking in the 3” diameter and larger dildos. Just don’t go bigger than you think you can handle; stretching is pleasurable, tearing, not so much.

One other option to take into consideration is a tapered dildo. Our tapered dildos start out narrow, at around 1”-1.5” at the tip, and get gradually wider the further down the shaft you get. This would be a great dildo for a guy who is looking for easy entry, but is looking for a little more stretch the deeper they get. These tapered dildos are great for the guy who is looking to gradually train his ass to take a fatter shaft.

The shape and texture of your dildo is just as important as the size.

Now that we’ve got the sizing figured out let’s start to think about what shape you’re looking for. If you’re the kind of guy who is looking for a little of the old “in and out”, meaning you’re looking for the feeling of a guy repeatedly thrusting inside of you you’re going to want to look for a straight, fixed width dildo with either a realistic or smooth texture. This will give you the thrusting feeling you’re looking for.

If you’re more interested in stimulating the entry, or inside walls, of the anus look for a dildo that is straight and either ribbed or studded. Once the dildo is inside you twisting and turning the dildo will stimulate these two areas. Length and width of these dildos will also need to be taken into consideration for maximum pleasure.

If you’re one of the lucky guys who understands the benefits of stimulating your prostate this is probably what you’re looking for in your first dildo. Make sure you find a dildo that is both long enough to reach your prostate, as well as curved to make sure you can get to it. While you may be able to maneuver a straight dildo around to find your p-spot, one designed to reach it will be much more pleasurable for you.

Choosing the right material for your needs.

Dildos come in many different materials these days including; silicone, glass and metal. Understanding the benefits of each material will help you choose the correct dildo for your needs.

Silicone dildos are very popular as they can be molded into any shape you can imagine. If you’re looking for the most realistic dildo then silicone is going to be your best bet. A silicone dildo will be seamless, phthalate free, latex free, and hypoallergenic. These dildos are also non-porous, making them very easy to clean. A lot of silicone dildos come with features such as vibrating bullets, suction cup bases, and realistic balls. Because of the variety, and lower cost, silicone dildos tend to be the first dildo a person purchases.

Glass dildos also seem to scare off a lot of guys. While the thought of one breaking mid-use is terrifying you can rest assured; it just doesn’t happen. Glass dildos are just as safe to use as any other material. Glass dildos are incredibly smooth which makes for a pleasurable ride and they’re non-porous which makes them easy to clean. A major advantage of glass, over other materials, is that you can heat, or cool, glass dildos in a bowl of water allowing you to experiment with different temperatures. While glass dildos may cost more than silicone or wood, they will last you a lifetime.

For the guy who’s looking for some heft in his dildo, metal just can’t be beat. Metal dildos are incredibly sturdy, and a very efficient material for p-spot stimulation. The metal on these dildos is perfectly smooth and non-porous which make for very easy cleaning. Like glass these dildos can also be warmed or cooled before being used allowing you to add a whole new dimension to anal stimulation you just can’t get with other materials. With proper care and cleaning these metal dildos will last you a lifetime.

While you’re shopping for your new dildo make sure you get the correct lube.

While you may not think which kind of lube you buy is important, the life expectancy of your new dildo depends on it. We’ve all been there before; stroking off in the bathroom and reaching for the first slippery thing we can find to lube our hand up. This is not the way to go about lubing up your new dildo. We carry three different kinds of lubes; oil based, water based, and silicone based. We’ll let you know which to purchase based on your new dildo.

Water based lubes are definitely what you’re going to want to purchase if you decide on a silicone dildo. Never use a silicone based lube on a silicone based dildo. Never. Water based lubes will allow you to safely, and enjoyably, use your new silicone based dildo. The only drawback of a water based lube, as opposed to an oil based lube, is that it dries out quicker and will need to be reapplied if you’re in a marathon session.

Silicone based lubes are great with any dildo that isn’t made of silicone. The chemical reaction that occurs between the silicone lube and your silicone dildo will, literally, melt your new dildo. Trust me, nothing will interrupt your ass play quicker than having that happen. Silicone lube goes great with glass, wood, or PVC dildos as the silicone lube is way slicker than a water based lube, and needs to be applied less frequently.

Oil based lube is a great, and very slick, alternative to water or silicone based lubes. It almost never needs reapplied and will work with any material. The only drawback is that it is much harder to clean off than water or silicone based lubes. If you have a dildo with a lot of texture, or with a control pad for a vibrator, these are going to take a long time to clean if you use an oil based lube.

Clean your dildo properly after use so it’s ready for next time.

We’ve all been there before; we’ve just finished up, there’s no time to clean up properly, and we just wipe off what we can and head for the door. This is no way to treat your new dildo (Ben from the club maybe, but not your new dildo). This is an investment in your pleasure you’re making, and you need to protect your investment. Make sure after every session with your new dildo you use one of our sex toy cleaners. This will protect your new dildo from the wear and tear you’re causing it, and from the lubes you use. You’ll also be protecting yourself when using these cleaners as you’ll ensure there is no bacteria lingering on your new toy just waiting to get in you the next time you use it. For your sake, and your toy’s, clean your new dildo properly after every use.

Now you have all the info you need to choose the perfect dildo for your needs.
